Highlights from the sale included Art Nouveau and Art Deco sculptures, paintings, and jewellery from The Leslie Crispin Collection.
We are pleased to share Mark’s top ten lots from our recent Style auction. Style: Including Art Nouveau & Art Deco Treasures from The Leslie Crispin Collection took place on 8th October 2025.
Following on from the strong performances of watches and jewellery in our July Eclectica III auction, Style saw Lot 339 a late Victorian Swiss 18ct gold full Hunter Repeater pocket watch realise well above its estimate achieving a staggering £6,490.
Several notable pieces of jewellery achieved outstanding results in the sale. Mark was particularly pleased to have achieved an auction record for a set of David Andersen brooches. Lot 209, a complete set of mid-century David Andersen 'Four Seasons' brooches, designed by Thorbjorn Lie-Jorensen in 1959, sold for £1,062.
The auction also saw a beautiful and rare Arts & Crafts Charlotte Newman yellow metal pendant/locket sell for £2,124. Newman is considered the first important female jeweller of the 19th century, working in Saville Row when the jewellery scene was a male-dominated industry. Mark was also delighted to have sold Lot 139 Art Nouveau gold and baroque pearl ring, decorated with stylised floral setting with large central baroque pearl, well above its estimate for £1,298.
Art Deco sculptures saw a particularly strong performance in our Style sale. Mark was thrilled to have achieved the best result at our auction house to date for a Marcel Bourraine (French, 1886-1948) French Art Deco bronze 'Mask Dancer' with Lot 281, realising £2,360. Similarly Lot 278, Pierre Le Faguays (French 1892-1962) titled 'Trophée', an Art Deco sculpture of three athletes, c1925, made a great result selling for £1,652.
We were also delighted to have made an auction record with the sale of Lot 258. This 1971 limited edition etching after Paul Nash (British, 1889-1946) titled 'The Wall - Dymchurch' sold for a superb £1,003. Mark was delighted to have sold through our auction house Lot 241, a work by Theodorus Rallis-Scaramanga a.k.a Théodore Ralli (Greek, 1852-1909), French street scene, oil on canvas, c1904, for a terrific £1,652.
Considering the current high value of silver, our Style auction saw many pieces achieve great
prices. Most notably, Lot 301 an Art Nouveau Elkington & Co. large silver bowl, with Birmingham hallmarks for 1908, sold for £1,652.
Mark's particular favourite item in the sale was Lot 336, a mid-late 1930s Art Deco Smiths for Boodle & Dunthorne chrome 'Belisha Beacons' mantel or bedside clock. After a fierce bidding competition online and in-person, this clock soared above its estimate of £80-120 to achieve £649 in the sale.
