With 92% of the 485 works sold, we had dealers and collectors from the West Coast of America to the Middle East placing bids on Azzouz’s remaining oeuvre. We were also delighted that paintings were also sold to numerous prestigious international public collections in the Middle East and Europe.
Two notable lots were some of her early 21st century works, made during her late, vibrant period. One of Azzouz’s larger works, sold for a total price of £650. Lot 34, ’Horse Head’, 2008, acrylic on canvas, sold for a total price of £470. These works showcase her distinctive and unique abstract style that fuses her pioneering Middle Eastern influences with her subsequent British Modernist training and studies.
Nadira Azzouz (1927-2020) was born in Mosul, Iraq, and studied and lived across the Middle East and in London. Her work was shown in group and solo exhibitions internationally and can now be seen in prestigious Middle Eastern and European public art collections, including the Barjeel Foundation, Sharjah and Associazione Genesi, Italy.
Expressions of the Soul: The Studio Sale of Nadira Azzouz was held live online and live at our premises at The Pantiles Arcade in the historic Pantiles, Tunbridge Wells on 5th November 2024.
