Probate & Formal Valuations

Mark Hill Auctions offers both probate valuations and formal valuations for insurance or other purposes.

What is a Probate Valuation?

A probate valuation is a written report detailing the contents of an estate after a person has died. This report includes art, antiques, jewellery, collectables, vehicles, furniture and general household items. Our valuations are compliant with HMRC and in accordance with the Inheritance Tax Act.

TeasetLow_How do I get a Probate Valuation?

Once you have booked an appointment with us, one of our professional valuers will visit the property to view the contents. If the property is vacant, we can liaise with the officially appointed key holder. We will visit each room, identifying items of value. If you are aware of any items that are not immediately visible, it would be helpful if you point home out, or leave them out in a visible, but safe place.

Within 14 days of the visit, you will receive a written report describing the items of value and giving a value of the items at that point on the open market. We can also email the report to a solicitor.

We understand that placing a financial value on a loved one’s possessions when you are grieving can be emotionally difficult as well as uncomfortable. We provide our services with care and discretion, as well as professionalism and complete confidentiality.

When the time is right and you are ready, we can assist you with the sale of the items if you would like us to.
